And what does TeleVoce have to do with all this?

PC Telephony and TeleVoce

In the mid-90's PC-to-PC voice communication emerged, led by Vocaltec, of Israel. Many complained of the lower quality and many vagaries that could be expected with a new technology. More entrants joined and during the bubble voice on the Internet grew to show great promise, but like many dreams of that era suffered when the bubble burst.

The promise was very clear to TeleVoce and we have moved slowly but never wavered in recognizing that the PC and Internet would indeed be relevant to telephony. Also in the mid-90's PCs were shipped with various voice modem solutions that showed promise, yet were too early for serious consideration for PC users. Today we have a much different story. TeleVoce has designed solutions for Windows XP where there is good system reliability and processing power for voice (and video, of course) to become practical options in everyday life.

The focus of TeleVoce has not been on the core technologies which have evolved tremendously due to large investments by many industry participants. What is still needed are practical means to exploit the role of the PC in telephone applications. We are always looking for telephony added value that can be brought to an Internet-connected PC. We have not shown our full hand, but our first efforts are revealed on this website.

Our basic philosophy is to create solutions that extend usability while blending in with our current concept of what is a phone. Too often solutions force engineering perspectives on users, and we are not without such a burden, but our objectives are to go beyond techno-centric tools. We have too many features on phones that we do not understand and can't use. We do not wish to be the source of more. We are NOT adding buttons. We are NOT forcing new habits. We offer new capabilities to exploit, of course, but there is no reason that anyone picking up your phone should not be able to dial and place a call. If TeleVoce software directs it as a free call connected over the Internet that can be your secret (and ours).
